JetBackup cPanel backups, restored by you

JetBackup is backup software for cPanel servers. On our hosting it backs up every account daily and weekly, keeps the copies for a month in separate cloud storage, and lets you restore a single file, a database or a whole mailbox yourself, from cPanel, in a few clicks.

The big picture

What JetBackup does, and where backups live

A backup kept on the same server as your site fails with it. JetBackup copies each account off the server on a schedule, and puts the restore button in your hands rather than ours.

JetBackup backs up each cPanel account on its own, on a schedule, and lets its owner restore from cPanel

  1. Account

    Your cPanel account

Website files, databases, mailboxes, DNS and settings, on our server.

  2. Schedule

    Daily and weekly

JetBackup copies the account every day and every week, with nothing for you to set up.

  3. Storage

    Separate cloud storage

Copies are kept off the server for a month, safe if the server itself fails.

Restoring works the other way round: you choose a date and what you need in cPanel, and JetBackup brings it back from storage to your account.
Self-service restore

9 things you can restore yourself

Each one has its own tab in JetBackup, so you bring back exactly what went wrong and leave everything else as it is. You can also download any of them instead.

Full account
Everything in one go: files, databases, email and settings, back to the moment of the backup.
Files and folders
Pick single files or whole folders from your home directory in a file browser.
Databases
One MySQL database or several, with the database users that go with them.
Database users
The users and their permissions, restored with or apart from the data.
Email accounts
A whole mailbox, messages included, after a deletion or a bad sync.
FTP accounts
The FTP logins you had set up, as they were.
Cron jobs
Scheduled tasks, so a site's timed jobs come back with it.
DNS zones
Your domains' DNS records, if a change broke email or the site.
SSL certificates
Installed certificates and their keys.
Step by step

How a restore works

No ticket and no waiting for support: three steps, all inside cPanel.

  1. Open JetBackup in cPanel

It sits in cPanel with your other tools. Choose what to restore: files, a database, an email account.

  2. Pick a date

Choose a daily or weekly backup from the last month. For files, tick the ones you want in the file browser.

  3. Restore or download

Restore puts it back, optionally merged with your live data. Download gives you a copy to keep.

Schedule and storage

How often, how long, and where

On our cPanel web and reseller hosting, the schedule is set for you: nothing to configure and nothing to remember.

Daily copies cover the "I deleted it this morning" mistakes; weekly copies reach back past a problem you only noticed days later.

Daily backups
Every account, every day, automatically.
Weekly backups
A second set, so you can go further back than the last few days.
Kept one month
Backups older than a month are removed as new ones arrive.
Separate cloud storage
Off the hosting server, so a hardware failure or a hacked server can't take the backups with it.
Why it matters

What a backup saves you from

Most restores have nothing to do with servers failing. They are ordinary mistakes, and the sooner you can undo them yourself, the less they cost.

  • A file or folder deleted by mistake
  • A plugin or theme update that breaks the site
  • A hacked site: restore the clean version from before the attack
  • A mailbox emptied by a phone or mail app sync
  • A DNS change that stopped email or the website
  • A server hardware failure

JetBackup for your own cPanel server

Run your own cPanel server? We supply the JetBackup licence, set it up, and store the backups in separate cloud storage. You pay for the licence and the space you use.

What is JetBackup?

JetBackup is backup and restore software for web hosting servers, made by JetApps. It runs on cPanel servers (and on DirectAdmin, Plesk and Webuzo), backs up each hosting account on its own, and gives every account holder a JetBackup page inside cPanel to restore or download their own backups.

Is JetBackup included with my hosting?

Yes. Every cPanel web hosting and cPanel reseller hosting account is backed up with JetBackup at no extra cost. On cloud and dedicated servers it is part of the server's price, sized at twice the disk.

How often are backups taken?

On our cPanel web and reseller hosting, JetBackup takes a daily backup and a weekly one, and keeps them for one month. You can go back to any day in the last week or so, and to a weekly copy further back.

Where are my backups stored?

In separate cloud storage, away from the server your site runs on. If the server fails, is hacked or is lost, the backups are not lost with it.

How do I restore a file or database?

Log in to cPanel and open JetBackup. Choose what to restore (files, a database, an email account and so on), pick the date of the backup, and select Restore. It runs in the background, and the queue shows when it has finished.

Will restoring overwrite my current site?

Only what you choose. You can restore one file or one database without touching the rest, and JetBackup can merge a backup with your live account, keeping your current data where the two differ.

Can I download my backups?

Yes. Instead of restoring, choose Download: JetBackup prepares the items you selected, and they appear under Downloads in the JetBackup menu for you to save.

Can I add JetBackup to my own cPanel server?

Yes. We supply the JetBackup licence for $8.95 a month plus cloud backup storage at $0.025 per GB for one copy, set it up and look after it. See the prices, then open a ticket.

Is JetBackup better than cPanel's own backups?

For the account holder, yes. cPanel's built-in backups are mostly run by the server administrator. JetBackup lets every account restore exactly the item it needs, from a choice of dates, without asking anyone.
