Our story
-
We start hosting websites
We began as a networking solutions provider. On 14 June 2002 we launched our first hosting website, iean.net, and started offering web hosting to our customers.
-
A second dedicated server
To make room for more client websites, we added a second dedicated server. Our original post about it is still on Web Hosting Talk.
- CPU
- Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz
- Memory
- 512 MB RAM, upgradable to 1 GB
- Disks
- 2 × 73 GB SCSI
- Operating system
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
- Control panel
- cPanel/WHM 9 with Fantastico De Luxe
- Data centre
- ThePlanet.com
It ran Linux with WHM and cPanel for shared and reseller hosting. Soon after, we moved our website to www.comcities.com. The Internet Archive still shows how our website looked in June 2003.
-
Our first radio station
Our internet radio hosting began with Nilwala Radio, a full live station broadcasting from Colombo on Shoutcast. Nilwala Radio is no longer on air, but it started the service most of our customers use today.
-
Our first TV station
We began streaming live video for our first TV station, and TV hosting joined radio as one of our services.
-
Platinum Online (Private) Limited
We incorporated Platinum Online (Private) Limited, the Sri Lankan company behind Comcities.
-
Still growing
Today we host thousands of radio stations and a number of TV stations, as well as websites and servers. Some of our customers from those early years, large and small, are still with us.
Thank you for trusting us for 24 years. We plan to be here for as long as you need us.
